Dreams Across Generations. In February, our focus turns to the dreams that weave through the tapestry of our Korean American community, spanning generations and aspirations.
This month, we draw inspiration from the recent premiere of “Liquor Store Dreams” in Atlanta, Georgia, a poignant exploration of immigrant experiences, intergenerational dynamics, and building bridges between Asian American and Black communities. Director and Producer So Yun Um, alongside our own CKA Executive Director Abraham Kim, engaged with a diverse audience, delving into the artistic choices, filmmaking process, and the profound messages embedded within the documentary. The event underscored the importance of dialogue across generations, echoing the filmmaker’s own journey of storytelling bridging familial divides. View photos from the event.
Additionally, we find resonance in James Rhee‘s upcoming book, “red helicopter,“a testament to the power of kindness, community, and the dreams that propel us forward. Rhee’s narrative, rooted in the experiences of second-generation Korean Americans, resonates deeply with our collective ethos of fostering connections and meaningful relationships. As we navigate the pages of Rhee’s book and the stories shared in “Liquor Store Dreams,” we are reminded of the strength inherent in our community’s dreams and aspirations.
This month, we also celebrate the achievements of our members and community, including Nancy Yoon, the First Asian American and first Korean American host at QVC, who premieres her new show, “New to Q!” Nancy’s platform exemplifies the power of storytelling and representation, echoing the ethos that drives us at CKA.
As we reflect on the dreams of our membership and their remarkable accomplishments, we are inspired by the resilience, creativity, and passion that continue to define our community’s narrative.
