This month, we celebrate the kickoff of the NetKAL XIII Fellowship, where cohort members gathered in Montana for an immersive weekend of introspection, exploration, and connection. Led by CKA Executive Director Abraham Kim , CKA Managing Director Linda Butcher, and NetKAL Facilitators Jim H. Lee and Jena Boccetti, participants delved into personal identity, agency, and community impact, setting the stage for a transformative journey ahead.
Additionally, we reflect on the transformative power of storytelling at the ROAR Story Slam in Washington D.C., where six finalists captivated audiences with their authentic narratives, highlighting the richness and diversity of the Korean American experience. Monica H. Kang Launches Global Leaders Interview Series
CKA Member Monica H. Kang, Founder & CEO of InnovatorsBox, has partnered with Forbes Korea to launch an exclusive global leadership series, InsightLeaders, that debuted this month.
In this groundbreaking series, Monica will showcase innovative global leaders who are transforming their fields. The inaugural interview features Pixar’s Elemental Director, Peter Sohn. Monica’s conversation with Peter offers deep insights into his journey and accomplishments.
Reflecting on the collaboration with Forbes Korea and the conversation with Peter Sohn, Monica said, “I hope these conversations inspire readers to know your voice matters and motivate them to find the courage to pursue their next innovation and be the leader they strive to be.”
“My mom would tell people that fighting with your kids is a great thing to help them find what they want to fight for. I resented it. We fought all the time, but to her point, fighting her made me realize how much I really wanted [a creative career],” Peter said in the interview. “So, when these opportunities started showing up, I became aware of them and actively sought them out.”

Julie Kim has been honored by Boston Magazine as one of the 150 Most Influential Bostonians. Recognized as “one of the biggest decision-makers in pharma” by an industry publication, Julie has emerged as a sought-after national speaker on drug development, management and leadership, and diversity and inclusion. Her commitment to growing and diversifying life sciences in Boston is evident through her work with Governor Healey on expanding the Massachusetts Next Generation Initiative, supporting underrepresented life-sciences entrepreneurs. Suzanne Yoon received the Duc Huang Founder’s Award for Immigrant Success at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA)’s Annual Gala this year! Coming from an immigrant family, she has personally witnessed the significance of social services and community support for those starting a new life in the United States. Gwinnett County Partners with CBRE on Mall Redevelopment
Gwinnett County announced a partnership with CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, to lead a redevelopment of the Gwinnett Place Mall. Eddie Ahn’s ‘Advocate’ Takes the Literary World by Storm!
The SF Chronicle recently featured Eddie Ahn‘s graphic memoir, “Advocate,” highlighting his fascinating journey from creating older comic strips to producing what is now being hailed as “beautifully illustrated chapters” in an “enlightening new book.” His book tour commenced in San Francisco and NYC, marking the beginning of an inspiring adventure. ROAR Story Slam: Empowering Korean American Voices
On April 27, the Korean American community gathered in Washington D.C. to experience the transformative power of storytelling at ROAR Story Slam, hosted by KoreanAmericanStory.org.
Six specially selected finalists took to the stage, sharing their authentic stories that resonated with the audience and captured the essence of the Korean American experience. Through laughter, tears, and moments of reflection, attendees were transported on a journey that celebrated the significance of our community’s voices.
Prior to the main event, CKA members came together for a pre-event happy hour, setting the stage for an evening filled with camaraderie and inspiration.

As the curtains closed on another successful ROAR Story Slam, CKA reflects on the impact of this event in amplifying Korean American voices and preserving our community’s narratives for generations to come. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who attended and participated.
In April, CKA Executive Director Abraham Kim embarked on a journey to Montana for the opening weekend of NetKAL XIII in Bigfork. This annual event marks the beginning of a transformative journey for a diverse group of emerging leaders from various fields, including medicine, law, entrepreneurship, military, technology, media/film, finance, and government. Amidst the glorious wilderness of Flathead Lake, surrounded by the Rocky Mountain range and a serene river, Abe led the fellows through an immersive experience aimed at broadening their understanding of leadership and community. The weekend was also enriched by the presence of NetKAL alumni, including Jim Lee (NetKAL 10) and Jena Boccetti (NetKAL 12), who played integral roles as lead instructor and co-facilitator, respectively, embodying the ethos of mentorship and community support.
Transitioning from the serene wilderness of Montana to the bustling streets of New York City, Abe will engage in enriching discussions with CKA members and friends, fostering meaningful connections and dialogue. Additionally, Abe will attend CKA’s Frieze NYC Reception event in anticipation of Frieze New York, recognizing the power of art to build community across boundaries and celebrate identity and impact.
As the month comes to a close, Abe reflects on the enriching experiences and connections forged during his travels. From the tranquil woods of Montana to the bustling streets of New York City, and even the board retreat in Phoenix, Arizona, each experience reinforced the importance of community, collaboration, and cultural celebration. As he continues his journey, Abe remains committed to fostering leadership, building community, and advancing the mission of the Council of Korean Americans.
