The National Korean American Community: Promises, Perils, and Paradoxes, with U.C. Berkeley Associate Dean, Professor of Law and Political Science, and Report Author,
Taeku Lee, who states “This comprehensive report draws from recent data research and provides a snapshot of the accomplishments, challenges, and complex dynamics that impact Korean Americans today.”
The conversation will be moderated by CKA Executive Director, Abraham Kim and will feature Korean American nonprofit leaders Connie Chung Joe, CEO of Advancing Justice – Los Angeles, and Linda Lee, President & CEO of Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York.

Associate Dean & Professor of Law and Political Science,
University of California, Berkeley
Taeku Lee is an Associate Dean, George Johnson Professor of Law, and Professor of Political Science at U.C. Berkeley. He is also a co-Principal Investigator of the National Asian American Survey, co-Principal Investigator of the Bay Area Poverty Tracker, and Managing Director of Asian American Decisions. Taeku is on the National Advisory Committee for the U.S. Census Bureau.

Abraham Kim, Ph.D., is the Executive Director at the Council of Korean Americans (CKA). He comes to CKA with 20 years of experience in foreign policy analyses, leadership development and innovation consulting. Previously, Dr. Kim served as Executive Director at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center.

Connie Chung Joe, JD, is the Chief Executive Officer of Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles, the nation’s largest legal and civil rights organization for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Before joining Advancing Justice-LA, Connie served as the Executive Director of the Korean American Family Services (KFAM) for eleven years.

Linda Lee has dedicated her career to improving the lives of marginalized New Yorkers as the President and CEO of Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, which serves over 1,300 community members daily. She also serves on Community Board 11 and is a Board Member of NAMI NYC-Metro.

The Council of Korean Americans is proud to release a landmark publication, entitled The National Korean American Community: Promises, Perils, and Paradoxes, on National Korean American Day. This comprehensive analysis provides insight into the systemic inequities affecting our community.
This publication is part of a multi-year project to provide national and local leaders––as well as civic organizations––with data and trend analysis to help identify Korean Americans’ critical needs and priorities. The following report is the first step in this project.
