WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) attended the 17th Annual 727 Armistice Day Commemoration to accept the prestigious Ambassador for Peace Medal on behalf of his late father, Specialist Vicente Gonzalez Sr. Mr. Gonzalez Sr., was a Korean War veteran who dutifully served in the 5th Armored Division of the United States Army from 1952-1954. He also proudly served as a U.S. Merchant Marine.
“It was a profound honor to accept the Ambassador for Peace Medal on behalf of my late father,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “His service during the Korean War represents the bravery and sacrifice of so many veterans who fought for freedom and peace. This recognition is a tribute to the enduring legacy and the profound impact of our Korean War veterans on the United States and the Republic of Korea.”
This year’s commemoration also marked the 15th anniversary of the enactment of the law establishing July 27th as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day in the United States. The event was co-hosted by the Council of Korean Americans, the Federation of Korean Associations, the Korean American Grassroots Conference and other institutions.
Congressman Gonzalez’s participation underscores his commitment to honoring the service and sacrifices of our veterans and fostering strong international alliances.
