Robin Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea in November 1960. She came to the U.S. in 1991 to attend a graduate program at the New York University School of Law from which she earned a master’s degree in comparative jurisprudence (M.C.J.). She earned a B.A. in English from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and an LL.B. from Korea National Open University.

Upon graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to undergo practical training at a law firm, Hong & Chang. She later worked at Seoul Bank of California (currently California Cho Hung Bank) in Los Angeles and Xylan Corporation in Calabasas (currently acquired by Alcatel), advising and administering regulatory and legal matters under various titles such as compliance officer, corporate secretary, contract manager until her marriage in 1997. She then divided her time by parenting her children, helping to manage the family trust, and serving on the board of several non-profit organizations that support students and artists such as Korean American Scholarship Foundation, Korean Arts Foundation of America, among others.

Beginning in 2007, she and her family lived in Seoul, South Korea for 3 years, and in 2010, relocated to Shanghai, China for 3 years. She and her children all returned to Los Angeles in 2013.

Currently, her children are in college and graduate school while she manages investments in family assets, and supports causes through her private foundation trust.
