Rachel Yang is a rising fourth-year undergraduate student at UC Berkeley from Irvine, CA. Studying Political Science, Public Policy, and Education, her goal is to tackle the interconnected issues in America’s education and criminal justice system. Rachel’s interest in addressing the school-to-prison pipeline was solidified through her work at the Public Defender’s Office and a special education school. Since high school, she has been mentoring and tutoring low-income students in Los Angeles and the East Bay area. Currently, Rachel is working as an undergraduate research apprentice within the SHIFT Research Institute at the Berkeley School of Social Welfare. This summer, she will be working as a Legislative and Congressional Affairs Intern at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C.
