Michelle Kim dedicated her professional life to the public sector with a mission to advocate for marginalized communities and reduce poverty. She served in the New York City government as Director of Legislation in the Office of New York City Public Advocate overseeing legislative and policy agenda with a focus on gender equity, immigrant rights, and education. Before moving to New York, Michelle served in the California State Senate, where she passed a number of bills on issues including juvenile justice, human trafficking, and election reform. She holds a Master of Intentional Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently teaching public policy courses at Montclair State University. Michelle is involved with nonprofit organizations including Korean American Community Foundation (KACF) which provides grants for the underserved and under-resourced Korean and Asian American communities and iMentor which provides mentoring opportunities for students from low-income communities.
