Jim Chung is an innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization executive with extensive experience building startup ecosystems, launching innovation programs, and translating research into market impact. Throughout his career, he has worked across academia, venture capital, government, and the private sector to help founders, universities, corporations, and investors accelerate innovation.

Jim currently serves as Senior Advisor for the University of Maryland’s I-Corps program, where he supports innovation commercialization, customer discovery, and entrepreneurial training initiatives. He also serves as Senior Advisor at ArcticBlue AI, helping organizations identify, validate, and scale high-impact AI initiatives that deliver measurable business value.

Previously, Jim served as Associate Vice President for Research, Innovation & Entrepreneurship at George Washington University, where he founded the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and led university-wide commercialization, startup, and ecosystem development initiatives. He also served as Co-Principal Investigator for the NSF Mid-Atlantic I-Corps Hub, helping expand innovation capacity and entrepreneurial education across the region.

Over the course of his career, Jim has advised entrepreneurs, universities, corporations, and government organizations in 22 countries. He has served as a mentor, advisor, investor, and board member for numerous startups and innovation organizations, helping early-stage ventures navigate commercialization, fundraising, and growth.

Earlier, Jim directed the Venture Accelerator at the University of Maryland and founded the Chesapeake Bay Seed Capital Fund, creating new pathways for university technologies and high-growth startups to access capital and commercialization resources. His professional background includes venture capital, private equity, technology commercialization, angel investing, and innovation strategy.

Jim has held research appointments at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and the University of Tokyo as a Fulbright Fellow. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University and pursued doctoral studies at MIT.
