Hyun Su (she/hers) is a doctoral student in the Applied Developmental Psychology program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine in 2012 and her Master’s degree in Psychology from Seoul National University, South Korea in 2016. Hyun Su is interested in supporting and empowering Korean and Asian American families and their children and youth’s adjustment to a racialized society through her research focusing on strengthening parent-child and/or family relationships. Through the CKA Emerging Leaders Scholarship program, she plans to explore Korean American families and their adolescents’ culturally unique experiences during and after the global pandemic, including racial discrimination experiences, ethnic-racial and civic socialization processes, the role of parent-adolescent relationship, and their impact on youth’s civic engagement and mental health. Hyun Su enjoys reading, cooking Korean food, and spending time with her dog, Woody, and family in her free time.
