Since taking the role of CEO in April 2019, John has been pivotal to steering VUIM towards its mission of providing the community with accessible, affordable healthcare services and advocating for the expansion and recognition of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. Under his leadership, VUIM has achieved significant milestones, including expanding its academic footprint from one to three campuses, each equipped with industry-leading Clinical facilities. He has also been instrumental in launching the University’s Doctorate programs in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine and positioning VUIM as one of the select institutions in the United States to offer graduate programs in the English, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese languages;these developments reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and global engagement. John has also served in varying capacities as a member of VUIM’s Board of Trustees (currently Ex-Officio) since June of 2010 and served as the institution’s Chief Operating Officer prior to his appointment to CEO.
Prior to joining VUIM, John spearheaded Business Development and Product Management at Arca Solutions Inc., a software consultancy based in Northern Virginia. He led the firm’s transformation by redefining global sales and marketing strategies and launching a mobile-first product division catering to the $60+ billion print publishing sector. Before Arca, John held management roles at Kaplan Inc.’s K-9 subsidiary in San Francisco, CA where he contributed to the innovation of the company’s technology driven, blended learning solutions.
In addition to his executive responsibilities at VUIM, John serves as the Board Chair and a member of the Executive Committee for the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (ACAHM) – the not-for-profit, federally recognized accrediting agency for freestanding institutions and colleges of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine in the United States. His 6 years of commitment to the Commission is a representation of his deep commitment to advancing the standards and practices of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine education. His previous contributions on the Executive Committee for the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (CCAHM) further underscore his dedication to the field of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine.
John holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
Most importantly, he is “”Daddy”” to his young children – daughter, Celine and son, Ethan and is married to the love of his life, Yoomin.
