Jaewoo Lee is an Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He leads the division that produces IMF’s annual External Sector Report, which analyzes global financial flows and exchange rate developments in 30 major economies. Prior to this, he led the division that produces the Regional Economic Outlook for Europe. His earlier IMF posts included the mission chief for Bulgaria, Romania, and Sri Lanka, as well as deputy chief of the division that produces the Regional Economic Outlook for Asia. Specializing in international macroeconomics, he published research papers in economics journals, taught economics at the University of California at Irvine, and worked as the Chief Korea Economist for the Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He graduated from Seoul National University (BA and MA in economics) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D. in economics).
